Lunn packed his rod and reel away, stowing the rest of his gear in the boot of the Volvo. He

thought about the near miss with the car and information he’d garnered over the last hour.

The old lady and her son were barely cold, and the remaining family was running roughshod over

the grandmother’s decisions, whilst very quickly claiming ownership of the old lady’s property. That

near miss with the car could just be a coincidence, couldn’t it?

Jack fumbled through his pockets to find his mobile, but Rhona Blacklock wasn’t picking up. He left

a message and called Mick Sparkes.

‘I’ve just had a bit of news fall into my lap that might add to the Lamont case,’ Lunn said.

‘What case, Jack? It’s closed.’

‘Yes, I know the case is closed. But I think Rhona would be grateful of it anyway,’ Lunn said. ‘I’ve

just bumped into an old acquaintance, who’s a developer and the Lamont family have put some

property up for sale that I know would have been directly against Elizabeth Lamont’s wishes.’

‘Jack, what they do with their inheritance is up to them.’

‘The wills have barely been read and probate hasn’t been granted, but the vultures are already

circling, Mick. Make the Detective Chief Superintendent aware, please.’

‘Okay,’ Sparkes replied. ‘Rhona’s taken Geoff Cooke to the cleaners over hauling the poacher in.’

‘Geoff will be blaming me for that, so keep your head down, Mick.’

‘Will do. Oh, I’ve got a DC to call Mr Wiseman and they’re going to meet with him at some point.’

‘Look, why don’t you and I go and see the old neighbours soon, as Rhona suggested?’

‘I’m pretty tied up and Geoff isn’t going to want you and me swanning around the place, stirring

things up.’

‘Rhona said that she wanted this watertight and so you’ll just be tying up loose ends,’ Jack

retorted. ‘I thought that at least some of the names on that list would have been spoken to by now.’

‘Let me see what I can do.’

‘Thanks and keep in touch.’
